The wave of popularity for natural medicine, is increasing the number of people testing homemade medicine. As Hippocrates said, "Nature itself is the best medicine". Although it can be very powerful and unexperimented people can put their health in danger. Some are claiming to have a better result with Artisanal CBD and others with Pharmaceutical CBD but what are the researches saying?
Beforehand, what is the main difference between those two methods? Artisanal indicates that the production is non-mechanized. The artisanal CBD oils are made outside an industrial/laboratory setting. The cost of production will usually be lower so is the end result oil.
Pharmaceutical is the opposite; the CBD oil is extracted with more sophisticated methods with the help of machinery. The end result is also usually tested for quality. This process can provide a more controlled quality.
A small study observed the side effect of both on 31 teens and children, for 11.8 months. All the patients had some form of epilepsy. The research was recording the doses administrated to the patients, the levels of CBD in their blood, their seizure history reduction with the new medication and all the side effects.
The result showed that teens and children using the artisanal CBD, unfortunately, had a 70% increase in seizure during the study. On the other hand, patients using the pharmaceutical CBD got a 39%reduction in seizures.
Although, 11 of the patients noted undesirable side effects when using the pharmaceutical CBD. Those side effects involved sleepiness, low appetite, nausea, and diarrhea. Six of the patients suffering from those side effects decided to stop using the drug completely because of them.
Study author Nathan T. Cohen, M.D., of Children's National Hospital in Washington D.C., commented "The difference in seizure control is dramatic and is definitely of concern since many people continue to use artisanal CBD. However, a limitation of our study is that it was small. More research is needed to see if similar results are found in larger groups of people."
In conclusion, as M.Cohen mentioned pharmaceutical CBD would be more effective even though artisanal CBD seems to be causing fewer side effects. Depending on the reason for usage, artisanal might be better for some patients. Not enough tests have been made to point out with certainty which one is better. Keeping in mind it has only been compared regarding their effect on epilepsy different results could occur if studied for anxiety or insomnia.

Please consult your Doctor before adding CBD or any supplement to your diet. Most workplace and competitive sports drug screens focus on delta-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and do not screen for Cannabinol (CBD) or other legal and natural hemp-based compounds. Be advised, studies have shown that consuming hemp foods or oils can cause a positive result when screening urine and blood specimens. Therefore, if you are subject to any form of drug testing or screening. We recommended (as does the United States Armed Services) that you DO-NOT ingest CBD or hemp oil before consulting your healthcare practitioner or your drug screening testing company or employer.
