Cannabis has been used to treat cancer patient for a few years now. It is generally used to help the patients got through their last moments or chemotherapy. It is used to helps relief their pain alleviates their minds and reduce their nausea.
The two most popular compound of cannabis are CBD (Cannabidiol) and THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol). For people suffering of cancer both compounds have been prescribed in the past. If you are new to the cannabis medicine, it is important to know the difference between CBD and THC. THC is the psycho active compound responsible for the high cannabis can provides. CBD has no psycho active side effects and is usually used for anxiety, pain relief, inflammation and much more.

In January this year (2020), a group of scientists, located in Israel had the pleasure to discover how these two lesser know compounds can kill gastrointestinal cancer cells. They tested the necrotic effects of many cannabinoids on different types of human cancer cells. The two cannabinoids mentioned earlier (CBC and CBG) had an apparent rate of necrosis in the cancer cells compared to other cannabinoids. They also had a more noticeable effect specifically on gastrointestinal cancer cells.
Dr. Yaakov Waksman explained : "My working assumption is that these results show that a correlation may exist between a cannabinoid's Topological Polar Surface Area (TPSA) value and its ability to induce anti-tumor activity, diminishing cancer cell's viability rates. CBC and CBG, as neutral cannabinoids, were both found to have a TPSA value which allows the cannabinoid molecule to penetrate a cancer cell's membrane, whereas their acidic form (CBCA and CBGA) - do not. This could explain the difference in anti-tumor activity rates demonstrated"
CBG (Cannabegerol) has also shown to be effective on stomach and bone cancer. Other studies demonstrated that CBG help reduces intraocular pressure therefore can be especially powerful in treating glaucoma. Further animal experiments made on mice revealed it is an anti-inflammatory and protects neurons against cell degeneration in the brain.
CBC (Cannabichromene) on top of its anti- cancer properties is also an anti-inflammatory and a great acne treatment. Like CBG it protects the brain by defending it against oxidative stress. Lastly in conjunction with THC and CBD it has powerful anti-depressant attributes
To conclude, we hear a lot about THC and CBD but the cannabis plant encloses many more powerful compound we haven’t discovered yet. Cannabinoids and all the other compounds found in cannabis still need more research. Now, it is time for us to understand and fully embrace this mystic plant.
